And how did that happen? I mean, Harry Carson was at your wedding! (Look, I just gave you tons of street cred.)

As for the NHL All-Star game, I'll assume that when the league signed its contract with Versus (then OLN), and later with NBC, the terms stipulated that Versus gets the mid-season showcase. Since OLN was the only willing to pay for broadcast rights at the time, they pretty much called the shots. And they just renewed through 2011 with an "exclusive" deal. I hope that's the meaningless media version of exclusive and there's still a way to bring ESPN back into the fold.

Anyway, I'm starting to think that it's time for the NHL to STOP pursuing the casual fan because it's not working and that pursuit often seems to alienate the passionate fans.

By the way, a few days ago I saw a headline stating that the starters for the All-Star game had just been named. I thought, "That's strange--the game is this weekend and the starters were named a few weeks ago." Then I realized: "Oh, NBA." It all depends on your perspective.Islanders Outsiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06969306719197194548noreply@blogger.com
